Measure the narrowest clear opening

Measure between the actual obstacles the machine must pass, not the advertised width of the gate panel. Posts, hinges, latches, trim, downspouts, air-conditioning equipment, and plants can reduce the usable opening.

Take a photo with the tape measure visible. If removing a gate panel is possible, say who owns it and who would be responsible for removal and reinstallation.

Walk the entire route

A wide gate does not help if the machine cannot make the turn before it, pass between the house and fence, cross a bridge or step, or reach the stump without driving over a sensitive surface.

Photograph tight corners, grade changes, retaining walls, pavers, septic areas, soft soil, drainage features, and the transition from street or trailer to yard.

Discuss surface protection

Tracked and wheeled machines place weight on the route. Ask the provider whether ground conditions are suitable and whether mats or plywood are part of the plan. Do not promise access over a neighbor's property without permission.

Flag utilities and private systems

Share known irrigation, drainage, invisible fencing, landscape lighting, septic components, and private utility lines. Ask the provider who handles public utility-location notices and what must be marked before work.

Good access information lets a provider decide whether the available machine fits before scheduling a trip, which can reduce delays and avoid surprises at the gate.
