Stump-grinding prices vary too much for one online number to fit every yard. Diameter matters, but so do equipment access, root flare, species, quantity, travel, grinding depth, and what happens to the chips afterward.

The details that move a quote
Measure across the widest part of the stump at ground level—not only the narrower cut surface. Show visible root flare, fences, gates, slopes, utility covers, patios, and nearby structures in your photos.
Say what you want to do with the space next. Lawn repair may need a different grinding depth and cleanup plan than a future patio, fence, driveway, pool, or replacement tree.
One stump versus several
Several stumps at one property may cost less per stump because equipment mobilization happens once. Photograph and measure every stump, even if one is clearly the largest.
A single small stump can still carry a minimum service charge. A stump behind a narrow gate may require compact equipment, extra protection for the access route, or a separate site visit.
Compare complete scopes
A useful written quote states the approximate grind depth, whether visible surface roots are included, where chips will go, whether excess material will be hauled away, and whether topsoil or seeding is included.
The lowest grinding number is not necessarily the lowest finished-project cost if you still need to remove a mound of chips, import soil, or repair access damage.
