How to measure and photograph a stump
Five minutes of preparation can make remote estimates far more useful.

Take three useful views
Send one wide photo showing the route from street to stump, one full-stump photo with surroundings, and one close view with a tape measure across the widest point at ground level. Add gate and step photos when access is tight.
Describe what pictures miss
Count all stumps, estimate the narrowest gate width, flag slopes and soft ground, and identify nearby fences, patios, sheds and utility markings. Do not dig around buried lines to improve a photo.
